Born and raised in a small town in East Texas, Lee Kyle grew up as one of five siblings; three of whom are gay. After graduating from college in Alpine, TX, he found himself in Portland Oregon and entered the art scene via a number of projects, including Sissyboy. “The term for me, “Sissy”, was like the worst thing you could call somebody…where I grew up in East Texas, it was worse than “fag” it was worse then “queer”, it was just the worst word. So when Zebra said he wanted to start a group called “Sissyboy” I thought “wow, that’s amazing!” because it reclaims the word”.
Kyle soon became synonymous with his alter-ego drag character “Splendora Gabore”, and was quickly embraced among many of the troupe’s fans as the face of Sissyboy. While performing with Sissyboy, Kyle also participated in a number of outside projects such as Theatre Uber Alles, collaborations with artist Amber Martin, and even founded two of his own performance art groups “Splendora and the Gender Fluids” and “P-boy Productions”. Kyle currently tours and performs with “tEEth”, a performance art dance collaborative, and will be relocating to New York in March of 2009.
